The platform secures every login with a one-time code sent by SMS. In some countries, an SMS costs many times more than in other markets, and that's exactly where the user base grew the most. 2FA costs rose with every new user, without any improvement in security.
For countries with expensive SMS, the login code now arrives as a voice call. A computer voice reads out the code, and the user enters it as usual. In all other countries, SMS remains the method, controlled by a country list in the backend.
